Oh please, he just needs to click the link in the footer and then put in his email and click unsubscribe. It's the exact same process he used to subscribe himself to the list. It's self serve in both directions.
And personally I prefer an email list to a forum, for this at least. And note that you can search all the archives in a format that looks just like a good ol forum if you prefer. The link to that is in the footer too.
