I would think you could eliminate this entirely and install an aftermarket
cooler(with a electric fan if necessary)

Thats just the first one that popped up in a search-I'm sure a little

The only "IF" is if the cooler has corroded the transmission case that its
attached to-then you have a  B I G   headache.
