that hardly seems a law for the very reason you stated. That being said it does feel like she is a little vulnerable sticking out when other cars aren't around...

I've been ticketed for the same thing, but the explanation was that if a vehicle sticks out into the road past the line that is created by the other vehicles parked on that street, it is obstructing traffic. Haven't been able to find this in the SF traffic code...

I asked one meter maid whether parking perpendicularly next to a very wide vehicle (as wide as the Interceptor's length) would be OK, and she said yes, but that if that vehicle moved and the Interceptor was left sticking out it would get a ticket.

Pretty arbitrary.
