Jeremy, most mechanics suggest a straight 30W for air-cooled engines(unless
the temperature is below 30 degrees F)
Your fuel problem could be caused by a number of problems, but the most
obvious would be the 'leaner' air at your altitude causing it to run too
rich. Also, I've seen these floats 'sink', causing engine to run extra
rich(black exhaust & plugs). Tiny holes in the float let gas in & cause
float level to be too high. Here's link to air-cooled carb adjustment at
high altitude. (info is for Bendix/Walbro carbs-I dont know what your
Cushman has, but you may be able to extrapolate.)
