One thing I"m always careful about, since my Interceptor does stick out a bunch, is to never park right in front of someone, since if they can't back up they'll be stuck.

And sometimes if I'm in a residential area where I'm not likely to get a ticket for parking on the sidewalk, I'll back up onto the curb so my rear wheel is on the curb.

But yeah, I park perpendicular all the time in SF, and have never gotten a ticket.

Fight the power!

On Mon, Oct 24, 2011 at 3:45 PM, Kris Motola <kmotola@sheppardmullin.com> wrote:

I've been ticketed for the same thing, but the explanation was that if a vehicle sticks out into the road past the line that is created by the other vehicles parked on that street, it is obstructing traffic. Haven't been able to find this in
the SF traffic code...

I asked one meter maid whether parking perpendicularly next to a very wide vehicle (as wide as the Interceptor's length) would be OK, and she said yes, but that if that vehicle moved and the Interceptor was left sticking out it would get a ticket.
Pretty arbitrary.
