I lived in Jakarta for 5 years, and took many rides in a  bajaj.  Pronounced "bah-chach", they are the working class taxi.

Smoky, noisy and customized to the individual drivers tastes, they sport garish paint jobs, dim headlights, sometimes 20 different running lights, and are everywhere in Jakarta (and all over Indo.)
