Thanks. Good point all.
I imagine I'll be in touch for one reason or another - you've been a real
help.

Brian,

I understand exactly. It is the same thing I did before buying. You can go
to the yahoo website and look for the group for Cushman Trucksters (of which
I am a member). Lots of good dialogue about Cushmans. Also, you may want
to see if there is a Cushman dealer in your area (usually sell EZ-GO golf
cars and other makes as well.) Helps if you need parts or maintenance
though a good automotive mechanic can work on the engine since it is a
actually a small car engine.

Good advice on Craigslist in general. However, you would probably find that
someone intending fraud would not give you their home phone and home address
as I will to check out if we should proceed. I for one could not find any
Cushmans locally so I had to look for them out of state. I found this
Cushman on eBay though it had also been on Craigslist. It did not reach
reserve so I contacted the seller and worked out a deal. I shipped it in
from Louisiana after talking with the owner about the Cushman and emailing
for pictures and details. I can give you the address, email, and phone
number of the former owner as well for a complete history. I had a good
feeling after conversations with Jim (the former owner) so I went ahead with
the deal and was not sorry I did. But to each his own. You have to feel
comfortable with it or don't do it because you will never be satisfied that
you did the right thing otherwise.

If you want to pursue further, I will be glad to talk to you more about it.
If not, I understand completely and wish you luck in finding a good three
wheeler.

Sincerely,
Steve Clark

Steve,
Thanks for the response.

While I am sorely tempted, I need to do the "due diligence drill" and go
online & find out about makes, models, prices, repairs, parts, histories,
problems, things to avoid, etc., sure you know what I mean. Will have to
wait until this weekend for sure as I am slammed at work. Also, no offense
meant whatsoever, but sure you understand that Craigslist takes pains to
warn us all about purchasing shipped vehicles.
Although I would love to have an excuse to spend a few days in San Antonio,
great weather this time of year, some of the best mexican food I've ever
had.

Thanks again,
Brian

Brian,

I bet that's mine you see on SF Craigslist except that is does not have a
truck bed - rather a lockable trunk with lid. The propane is really a bonus
- has a forklift propane tank that fits into the small tool compartment on
the rear. It is removable. Between the gas and the propane, you get twice
the mileage capacity with just the flip of a switch, or you can use all
natural gas if you want to go completely green. Can be filled by any
propane dealer.

Only thing is that it is located in San Antonio, Texas (licensed and
registered - easy to transfer, just like you would a car). I just
advertised in the SF Bay area. Shipping would be about $800 or so, but I
would be inclined to lower the price to help out with this.

Let me know if you are interested. It is really a nice one and the
automatics are less common.

Steve

Bob,

Thanks for the great response!
Now on to finding a cart & dealing with the monkeys.
First glance, saw one for sale on craigslist that has a truck bed. Runs on
both gas and propane (a little unsure about the propane part), and I'd have
to drive to SF to haul it back.

Hi,

I live near Salem (Keizer) and can tell you that they are perfectly legal in
Oregon. Not to say you won't have trouble, because the Oregon DMV is
staffed by a bunch of monkeys who want to do the least amount of work
possible and the monkeys have come to realize that saying no is their ticket
to zero effort. The law is in your favor here. If you get a hassle trying
to register one, just go to another DMV office with smarter monkeys.

In Oregon you can register a 3 wheeler like a Cushman/Go-4 as a motorcycle.
If the vehicle is "enclosed" you don't need a helmet or a motorcycle
endorsement.

You will not get anyone from the Oregon DMV or ODOT to firmly commit to
exactly what "enclosed" is. Along with avoiding work, the monkeys also
avoid accountability.

If your Cushman has a top and doors, it is enclosed. If you take the doors
off but leave the top on, is it still enclosed? The DMV has refused to
answer. You will just get the runaround.

That all said, I have owned many different Cushman of all styles and have
never had a hassle from law enforcement. I take the doors off in the summer
and continue to ride with no helmet. If I take both the top and doors off,
I wear a helmet. By the way, many cities have "motorcycle only" parking,
which you can legally use. Very handy.

In Oregon you should have no problem registering a Cushman and in my
experience you will get no trouble from law enforcement.

They are a great vehicle for plowing around town, I am surprised more people
don't have them.

Bob

New poster (hope the WSJ article didn't ruin things). Looking to
get some 3 wheel in my life.

Anyone in Oregon tried to register/operate any of these? Called
local ATV/yamaha dealer, not a lot of help.
Having lived in SF, I know the police are tolerant/have better
things to do, but up here probably
get pulled over more than worth the trouble.

	Thanks,

	Brian
